A Georgian-style satinwood Pembroke table from 1900 displays a warm gold colour across its timber surfaces, complemented by dark crossbanded border inlays along the top and drop leaves. The rectangular top incorporates hinged side flaps supported by folding wooden brackets above turned spindle legs joined by a low stretcher base. Visible construction details include delicate dark stringing lines tracing the contours of the leaves and a gently scalloped apron beneath the main surface. The table measures 64 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 61 cm deep when fully extended, providing a compact surface for everyday use. Ideal for placement at the end of a sofa or beside a living room armchair, it brings traditional English country house character to compact domestic spaces while offering practical display surfaces.

A Pembroke table is a type of small drop-leaf table developed in the mid-to-late eighteenth century, designed for occasional use such as tea, writing, or bedside placement. Named according to tradition after the Countess of Pembroke, the design features hinged flaps supported by hinged wooden brackets known as fly brackets.

Traditional Pembroke tables were constructed using fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and rosewood. High-grade veneers, contrasting crossbanding, ebony or boxwood stringing, and solid turned or tapered wooden legs are defining characteristics of period construction.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original rule joints along the drop-leaf hinges, and authentic aged patina across the timber. Examining the underside reveals hand-sawn timber marks and traditional wooden fly-bracket mechanisms.

A Pembroke table functions well as a compact sofa side table, an entryway accent, or a nightstand. Opening one or both flaps provides flexible surface area for lamps and books while preserving floor space in smaller rooms.

Maintain satinwood surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent warping and excessive fading of the veneer.
