Incredibly Fine Japanese Meiji Period Boxwood Okimono - Oni with Bugle

Description

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this Meiji period (1868-1912) c1880 Japanese carved Boxwood Okimono depicting Oni, he is modelled wearing a crown and playing a Bugle that he holds in his right hand, his other hand grasping a sword, thrust in to his loincloth, his eyes inlaid with black horn, the artist has captured this scene in a very detailed way, although this little Okimino is unsigned we firmly attribute this carving to the artist "Rokko", a very powerful and well carved Okimono that would make a great addition to your Japanese works of art collection , and may also appeal to Netsuke collectors .

Provenance:

Couzon collection, Paris.

Condition report:

In fine condition, the rear has a plug that we believe to be original.
