This Screen consists of many superb polychrome printed images. It is highly decorative and includes many romantic images, as well as domestic interiors and street scenes including two sedan chairs. This is a completely unique and charming antique.
We have dated this delightful reversible Decoupage Screen to circa 1880. The unusual picture included in the montage of a middle aged Queen Victoria gives extra charm when added to the many, many other images including a picture of the poet, Shelley.
The Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901. It was a long period of peace, prosperity, "refined sensibilities" and national self-confidence for the United Kingdom. Some scholars date the beginning of the period in terms of sensibilities and political concerns to the passage of the Reform Act 1832.
Condition: good, but there is some wear and rough edges on the folding lines consistent with its age of about 140 years old. There are no holes or missing areas of decoration.
