As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Meiji period Japanese Walrus tusk Okimono depicting the humorous characters Ashinaga and Tenaga entwined with an Octopus , the long armed fisherman Tenaga trying to free the creature from his long legged brother and fellow fisherman Ashinaga , what a situation these two have got themselves into ,a basket of Shells at their feet , this pair are fondly admired in Japanese folklore and often captured in many medium including bronze , lacquer , wood and ceramic , the faces say it all !! , artist signed to the rear by Tomichika .

Notes: The Okimono is carved from a Warlus tooth and therefore qualifies as marine ivory.
