George II Walnut Framed 1757 Sampler of the Lord’s PrayerA most enchanting and unusual example of a hand-stitched Sampler of the Lord’s Prayer produced in the era of King George II signed by ''Dorothy Thrower'' and dated ''1757''. This is a rare opportunity to acquire such a genuine historic antique. It is framed in slightly damaged Walnut with the Sampler tacked on to what appears to be the original wooden backing board (see photograph of the reverse of the Sampler). A needlework Sampler is a piece of embroidery produced as a demonstration or test of skill in needlework. It often includes the alphabet, figures, motifs, decorative borders and sometimes the name of the person who embroidered it and the date, in this case “Dorothy Thrower 1757” is charmingly stitched at the bottom of the Sampler.
