Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The box is made from cut glass and the fittings from a nickel or silver-plated metal. The lid has a bayonet type fitting which keeps the lid in place when closed up.

There is a hole where the string is dispensed and the original cutter crowns the top. The cutter retains the original blade which really would be too blunt to cut thick sting today.
Most unusual and in excellent condition, the foot has a diameter measures 3 1/2" in diameter x 5" tall to top of cutter.
