Superb Spiers of Ayr Steel Smoothing Plane

1900 - 1920
Description

SUPERB little used 1920's ALL ORIGINAL parallel sided, doevtailed steel smoothing plane by SPIERS of AYR. Gunmetal lever cap with scroll script stamp with beautifully grained rosewood infill that is in immaculate condition. The rear handle with full spur and no cracks. Both the blade and backing iron are stamped Spiers and are both original. All parts of the plane are stamped with a number 14. The front infill is also stamped SPIERS AYR and number 23. Slight discolouration to the base but otherwise as good as they come. 2 1/4" wide blade.
