An Unusual Japanese Edo Period Stag Antler Rat Netsuke

As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this finely carved stag antler netsuke depicting a pair of rats on a mollusc or shell of some description , the rats with inlaid jet black eyes sit in a humerous pose holding paws while appearing to embrace , upon the larger shell sits a clam shell that appears to have been cleverly carved by the artist for the purpose of attaching a further cord ? a great Edo period netsuke of large proportions.
