As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this great 19th century boxwood netsuke of a blind masseur lifting a heavy stone , the patination and detail are quite superb, he grimaces as he attempts to lift the heavy weight, the netsuke is signed to the underside in a mother of pearl tablet which we believe reads Gyokkei , a highly regarded netsuke carver of the Meiji period who typically carved this subject .
The condition is very good .
