A Finely Drawn Japanese IVory Okimono Signed Munetoshi

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this very fine Japanese ivory okimono depicting a character known as Saigyo, a reclusive priest-poet Saigyo is captured in a rested pose and is apparently viewing Mount Fuji, he is dressed in travelling attire including a woven straw hat and carrying a bundle of goods including a large gourd drinking vessel, the scene is famous in many theatrical plays in Japan and is known as ''Fuji-mi Saigyo'' the quality of this one piece ivory is evident in every detail and has been exceptionally well drawn by the artist Seishita Munetoshi which can also translate to read the art name Ichiyusai Soju ,the okimono is signed to the underside in an oval mother of pearl tablet, a magical and chunky one piece okimono that will certainly enhance your Japanese collection !!
 
The condition is superb throughout , the ivory has a lovely mellow colour ,for complete accuracy we note a couple of old age cracks on the underside of the straw hat but n...
