A Japanese Gold Lacquer Tsuba Shaped Plaque By Nemoto

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this wonderful Japanese Gold lacquer plaque in its period black lacquer tomobako , the plaque is formed as an outsized tsuba and decorated in fine shibayama detailing , the front has a humerous scene of Shoki the demon queller looking over an oni , the reverse has the more traditional tranquil garden scenes together with the artists signature ''NEMOTO''in a mother of pearl seal , the outer edge is protected with arim of silver further decorated with enamel floral detail, the artist in question was a very well known for producing high quality gold lacquer and shibayama works of art in the late 19th century.

The condition is remarkable with no losses to the shibayama detailing , as with the Khalili example you will note minimal dark spots where the gold lacquer meets the silver outer band , overall ...
