As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this most superb quality and extremly rare Japanese ivory okimono of a group of bears , the naturalistically carved ivory tusk in the form of a bridge depicts a group of five bears , the young cubs in the middle are very humerous being attracted to a spider that has landed on the right hand bears paw , mother and father are either side protecting their young cubs whilst a fifth infant bear follows behind,the carving of the larger bears in particular is tokyo school quality and although they appear unsigned they would each sell in there own right as individual okimono, the bears are fitted to a fantastic carved Japanese hardwood stand that is incredibly heavy and probably "iron wood"?

The condition is great with no losses to any part of the tusk bridge, just a few old stable age cracks which give the whole group a naturalistic look .

The base is nicely polished and incredibly heavy with an original maker or retailers label to the underside.
