Rare 19thc Roe Deer Horn Desk Inkstand Double Inkwell

Description

A superb 19thc Austrian Inkstand.

c1870-1880.

This most unique inkstand is constructed from, horn and wood,with double glass inkwells.

To the centre are roe deer horns, wonderfully used as the pen rest, flanked by two glass inkwells, having exquisitely carved lids, depicting resting stags.Carved in bone.

The wooden base being covered in stag horn, decorated with carved stars. All standing on roe deer teeth supports.

A very charming, unusual, and rare item.

The dimensions are-Height-23cm.

Depth-17cm.

Width-28cm.

The condition overall is very good, small loss to the horn covering to the back, and to the top of the inkwell holders, all visible in the pictures. Some loss/knocks to the carved stags, having lost their horns.
