Rare 19th Century Japanese Painted Ivory Okimono of Kannon (Kuan-yin)

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this most unusual and finely decorated Japanese ivory figure , the okimono depicts a study of Sho Kannon carrying a closed lotus flower in her left arm and a drinking vessel in her other hand ,this apparently represents the buddha of nature in us all ? , she is wearing flowing robes and a head dress as well as a beaded prayer necklace , she has been wonderfully decorated throughout in fine detail predominately using imperial colours of red , green, gold and blue , she is a very special lady and would grace any serious Japanese collection !!

The condition is lovely throughout , she has a wonderful honey coloured patina beneath the highly decorative enamel paintwork which shows only minor age related wear , the base is inset with a red seal signature tablet.
