Pair Of 19th Century 'pulham's Terra Cotta' Urns

Elegant pair of lobed 19th century terracotta urns - manufactured by James Pulham & sons.
 
The firm was founded by James Pulham in the early part of the 19th century. The company became reknowned for creating a wide range of artificial landscapes and architectural ornamentation. The victorians had a passion for travel, gardening and plant collecting and James Pulham had the forsight to supply all that was needed to recreate exotic vistas nearer to home.
 
Winning medals at the Great Exhibition of 1851, International Exhibition of 1862 and prominent commissions throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries assured Pulhams success until its closure in 1920.
 
Having sustained approximately 150 years of english weather the urns are remarkably robust and intact. However, a tip from one of the handles is now missing and there are a number of minor chips to the rims, bases and bodies.
