Fantastic Quality Japanese Ivory Okimono Group Snow Bear on Rocky Outcrop Meiji Period

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this superb quality Japanese carved ivory okimono group depicting a snow bear standing on a rocky outcrop looking somewhat puzzled by the sight of a giant sea snail crawling up the rocks ahead ?

The quality of the carving of the bear is fabulous in every detail ,he is so full of movement, he stands poised and is pegged to his original hardwood base with two ivory pins , he simply lifts off for cleaning or packing and is signed to the underside of his foot.

The condition is as perfect as you could wish for with signs of that nice mellow honey colour to the ivory that only age can bring , a beautiful okimono.
