Great Pair of Japanese Bronze Elephant Bookends- Meiji Period Signed

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this very unusual pair of Japanese bronze bookends or heavy shelf ornaments, this fabulous stepped pair of solid bronze bookends depict a pair of adult elephants in various poses together with two baby elephants clambering over the steps , complete with ivory tusks and patinated trunk and ear lobes , these items are as fine a quality as the more common Meiji period elephant models of the period.

The condition is superb and they are ready for immediate use , they are heavy at over 1.3kg each and therefore will not have any problem supporting your stack of books or just add them as a great addition to your oriental collection.

We have not seen another pair of these in over 35 yrs of collecting and dealing .
