Japanese Ivory Tusk Okimono on Hardwood Stand Signed

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this most unusual Japanese carved tusk okimono on its original purpose built hardwood stand,the tusk carving is extremly busy and depicts a really comical group of individuals one of which is unveiling a scroll which his companion reads using a magnifying glass , the main character sits in his chair stroking his beard whilst a man at his feet clutching his dog appears to be waiting for a third individual to pour a drink from his gourd , at either end are hiding oni and floating above is a dragon , that is my summary of events , i am sure there is a story there somewhere ?

The condition is great and it is signed on the underside you will note a tiny stable natural fissure near the signature, it rests in its original hardwood stand and is ready for display with no losses or damage.

Length of stand 10" 26 cm

Total max height 3.5" 8.5 cm
