Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to be able to offer this magnificent Chinese ivory table screen on stand , the panel itself is arched and depicts the most intricate battle scenes with warriors fighting on horseback and on foot , the detailing is magnificent , the ivory panel slots into its purpose built stand and slants backwards , it only sits one way as intended and has lovely mellow yellow tones where it has sat inset for many years , the stand although a nice crisp hardwood may have been made to fit this important panel at a later date as was quite usual , indeed a lot of Japanese ivory is housed in later Chinese stands.

The ivory probably made about 1879-80 and the stand probably circa 1900.

The condition is quite superb and although the panel is deeply carved and well protected you would have expected minor damage but thankfully it is perfect !!
