Very Rare Japanese Buffalo Horn Netsuke Manner of "Kano Tessai"

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are pleased to offer this very rare Japanese Horn netsuke from the Meiji period 1868-1912 , unusually this netsuke is carved from buffalo horn in the form of a swimming fish probably carp .

We only know of one artist (Kano Tessai 1845-1925) who often used buffalo horn to carve,there were obviously others but not many artists used it due to it being a difficult material to shape anything from that is not flat form , Tessai usually always carved fish but often salmon .

It has gem set eyes and other than natural flaws and age cracks is in good condition, a real rare find for your netsuke collection !
