18th Century Japanese Ivory Netsuke Hermit Crab on Clam

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to be able to offer this quite superb Japanese ivory netsuke from the Edo period , the netsuke is in the form of a shelled crab clambering upon a clam shell , the creature out of his shell in search of food .

The condition and colour are simply lovely given its great age and use , he has a couple of minor wear chips on his left eye , he has natural age cracks and is the most tactile netsuke you could imagine , feels great and a fabulous colour , one for the purists !!
