Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An early 19th-century French Empire-style console table made from rich brown mahogany, white Carrara marble, mirrored glass, and brass. The piece includes a white veined marble top, two white marble front columns with chased gilt brass mounts, a single frieze drawer fitted with a shield-shaped brass escutcheon, a mirrored back panel flanked by flat architectural pilasters, and a concave plinth base. The wood displays a warm finish with visible grain patterns, while the metalwork shows decorative chasing on the column collars. The structure measures 85 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. This compact table sits well in an entrance hall beside the front door, or against a living room wall to reflect light from the mirror-back. The surface holds decorative objects, keys, or post, while the lower shelf provides additional display space. The traditional design suits classic interiors, hallways, and drawing rooms seeking formal period furniture with architectural details.

FAQs

Originating in early 19th-century France under Napoleon Bonaparte, French Empire style furniture features classical Greco-Roman architectural proportions, symmetrical forms, rich wood veneers, marble surfaces, and brass or ormolu mounts.

These tables were typically crafted from mahogany veneers applied over hardwood frames, featuring polished white or grey-veined marble tops, solid marble or wooden columns, mirrored glass backings, and chiseled brass or gilt-bronze accents.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original hand-silvered mirror panels displaying slight oxidisation, hand-turned marble or timber columns, and cast brass hardware appropriate to the period.

Position the table against a prominent wall in a hallway or living room to create an architectural focal point, pairing the structured silhouette with understated modern artwork or neutral ceramic accessories.

Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral stone cleaner to avoid etching, dust the mahogany woodwork with a soft microfibre cloth, apply beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, and protect the surface from direct moisture or heat.
