Rare Scottish Steel Wood Plane by Mathieson

1900 - 1920
Description

RARE Scottish coffin-shaped dovetailed steel smoothing plane of the highest quality made by Alexander Mathieson & Son of Glasgow but RARELY stamped CARRICK & CRAIG, GLASGOW and not Mathieson. Would definitely have been made by Mathieson probably for Carrick and Craig to retail.

Very nice brass lever cap with dark rosewood infill, the open rear handle with full spur. Good thick parallel iron by Ibbotson produces a fine mouth.

Small hairline crack approx. half way through rear handle near the top doesn't effect this plane in the slightest.

SIZE; 7 1/2" long with 2 1/4" wide blade
