Japanese Ivory Okimono Elephant and Monkey

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our oriental collection we are pleased to offer this super Japanese ivory okimono of an elephant stood on his hind legs on a ball with a monkey balancing on his head , the elephant appears to be wide mouthed and smiling , this is an okimono carved entirely from one piece of ivory as all the good ones usually are , the subject is great and the detail is very nice ,it has probably spent its life in a cabinet and is now just starting to mellow down to a nice yellow colour in places , the condition is perfect with no damage or repairs .

A great addition to your collection or a great gift !!
