Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The condition is lovely , there are a few black laquer chips and marks to be expected but commensurate for its age ,remarkably i can only find one piece of mother of pearl missing amongst the many hundreds applied to the panels .
The screen is very heavy and stands on the usual brass capped feet for protection .
Not to be confused with the modern screens seen in chinese restaurants today.
