Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE VICTORIAN ERA:
Cast brass spring catch: late 19th-century hardware.
Twin underside battens with recessed screws: construction methods of the period.
Turned baluster column and cabriole legs: late Victorian revival of earlier Georgian taste.
Pegged joint caps at the pillar base: cabinet work from around 1880 onwards.

Originating in the 18th century and widely produced throughout the Victorian period, a tilt top breakfast table features a hinged circular top that tilts vertically when not in use to save space along room perimeters.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, supported by a turned central pedestal and a tripod or quadrupod base secured with a brass catch mechanism.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-cut dovetails or brass release catches beneath the top, original wood movement along the timber grain, and natural patina on the turned pedestal base.

Positioned in a dining alcove, entrance hall, or living room corner, this functional table pairs well with contemporary seating or functions as a display surface for ceramics and books.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct sunlight, radiators, and excessive humidity.
