The Schwanservice was a 2200 piece Rococo- Baroque porcelain tableware service created by Meissen in Germany between 1737 and 1742 after being commissioned by King Augustus III as a wedding present for his favourite first minister Heinrich von Bruhl whom he made director of the Meissen works in 1739.
It is said that the surviving pieces hidden in the castle’s cellars were used by the soldiers as targets in a version of clay pigeon shooting.

The only surviving pieces today reside in many museums with a trickle of pieces from the original production still appearing on the art market. London auction prices in 2015 include £31,500 for a teacup and saucer, £18,125 for a slop bowl, £6875 for small fragments of three candlesticks, £15,000 for a saucer and £8.125 for a mustard pot cover.
