Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A gaming compendium box is a fitted tabletop storage container manufactured to hold traditional parlour game accessories, including counters, chips, and playing cards. Popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries, these boxes were produced by high-end retailers for entertaining in private residences.

Traditional games boxes were crafted from painted or lacquered hardwoods, featuring metal feet, hinges, and keyhole escutcheons. Interior compartments were typically lined with silk, velvet, or paper, holding counters fashioned from Bakelite, celluloid, bone, or mother-of-pearl.

Authentic pieces often feature a retailer or maker plaque inside the lid, stamped hardware, and era-appropriate construction details such as hand-cut dovetails or specific brass fittings. Examining the wear on the base and checking for original period counters also assists in verification.

A vintage gaming box works as a decorative accent when placed on a sideboard, coffee table, or desk. Displaying the box slightly open showcases the colourful internal compartments and vintage counters while providing functional storage.

Maintain lacquered surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent wood movement and lacquer cracking.
