This nineteenth-century Victorian country salter tub is constructed from vertical timber staves arranged in a circular form with warm brown wood tones. Two weathered iron hoops secure the exterior structure, accompanied by simple side drop handles fitted below the rim. The surface displays natural grain variations, darker staining around the metal bands, and signs of age including surface weathering along the staves and hardware. The piece measures 40.5 cm in height, 56 cm in width, and 68 cm in length. Placed beside a fireplace hearth or within a rustic farmhouse interior, the salter serves as a practical storage container for logs, blankets, or everyday household items. The traditional coopered design provides a functional decorative accent suitable for traditional and country-style rooms.

Historically, wooden salter tubs were essential domestic and agricultural vessels used for curing and preserving meat or fish with dry salt prior to the widespread availability of refrigeration.

These vessels were crafted by coopers using fitted wooden staves held together under tension by hand-forged iron or steel hoops, often featuring side handles for transportation.

Authentic period salters display hand-riveted metal bands, tool marks on the timber staves, natural shrinkage gaps, and signs of historical salt contact or patina on the interior surface.

In contemporary settings, these rustic tubs are frequently repurposed as decorative log holders beside a fireplace, striking garden planters, or unique storage containers for rolled blankets.

Keep the item in a stable humidity environment to prevent the wooden staves from shrinking or loosening, and apply a light coat of natural beeswax to the timber and microcrystalline wax to iron bands to prevent corrosion.
