Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian side table is fashioned from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and an oval top. The piece rests upon a turned central pedestal that finishes in a three-legged scrolled tripod base, complemented by simple edge mouldings around the tabletop surface. Visible signs of age include numerous surface scratches across the wood grain of the top alongside subtle scuffs and wear along the moulded perimeter. Measuring 71 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface for everyday household items. Placed at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair, the occasional table serves as a convenient spot for lamps, books, or decorative accessories within an English Country House living space or hallway.

FAQs

Originating in the 19th century, Victorian tripod tables are small occasional tables featuring an oval or circular top supported by a central turned column resting on three outward-curving legs. They were widely designed for versatility as tea, wine, or lamp tables in English homes.

Cabinetmakers predominantly used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, often featuring polished timber tops with solid turned central columns and hand-carved legs secured with joinery.

Authentic pieces display hand-turned column details, carved cabriole or scroll legs, irregular underside tool marks, and natural age-related oxidisation in the wood finish.

Place the table beside a contemporary sofa or armchair, using it to display a modern table lamp, brass accessories, or a ceramic vase to create a balanced contrast between traditional and modern elements.

Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth and apply high-grade beeswax twice annually, keeping the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent wood warping.
