Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This folk art pine coat rack originates from Central Transylvania during the early-mid twentieth century and exemplifies traditional European folk art style. The wooden piece displays hand-painted multicolour floral motifs in shades of red, yellow, black and white across a pale ground, complemented by panellised decoration and a scalloped cresting along the top edge. Eight black wrought iron hooks are fitted along the lower margin for hanging garments. The coat rack measures 58 cm high, 180 cm wide, 8 cm deep. It functions practically as a wall-mounted storage fixture in a hallway or beside the front door of a rustic farmhouse interior.

FAQs

European folk art painted furniture developed in rural communities across Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe, characterised by hand-painted floral motifs, decorative borders, and regional symbolism executed on utilitarian wooden items.

These items were typically constructed from local softwoods or hardwoods using standard joinery, primed with a base coat, decorated using tempera or oil-based paints, and fitted with hand-forged iron or cast metal hooks.

Authentic pieces display natural wear around structural edges and hooks, historical paint layering, traditional regional pigment combinations, and occasionally hand-painted dates or initials integrated directly into the decorative panels.

Position the rack in an entryway, hallway, or boot room against a neutral wall backdrop to allow the detailed brushwork and graphic floral patterns to serve as a focal point.

Dust regularly using a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture that could compromise the paint film, and keep away from direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading.
