Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th-century pioneer step ladders exemplify rustic country style through their traditional A-frame construction in warm brown pine with iron components. The piece stands 198 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 102 cm deep, comprising a flat top platform, six stepped treads, and cast iron ornate hinges carrying the manufacturer name alongside an adjustable locking mechanism and metal side braces. In a contemporary home, this sturdy utility piece serves practical purposes in functional spaces like a kitchen or pantry, or functions as a decorative display stand for plants and books in an empty corner. The construction remains clean, tidy, and solid throughout, showing the natural grain and colour variations of the timber alongside durable metal hardware.

FAQs

Self-supporting folding step ladders gained widespread domestic and commercial popularity during the late nineteenth century, providing safe, portable elevation without requiring wall support.

Historical step ladders were typically constructed using durable softwoods like pine or hardwoods like oak, secured with iron stay rods and cast iron hinges for structural stability.

Authentic pieces feature genuine operational wear on tread edges, original iron folding mechanisms, stamped maker branding, and traditional wood joinery rather than modern fasteners.

Designers frequently utilise wooden step ladders as tiered display stands for trailing house plants, folded textiles, or curated collections of books and ceramics.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to nourish the timber and protect the patinated surface.
