Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This presentation trophy takes the form of a standing shield in warm brown oak, dating from circa 1930 in the United Kingdom. The piece follows a shield shape with a pointed base and a carved, scrolling top outline. Applied silver-plated scroll banners sit near the upper edge, accompanied by smaller circular silver winner plaques mounted down both sides. At the centre, a prominent oval silver darts emblem rests within an intricate laurel wreath border. The back includes a sturdy wooden support strut, allowing the shield to stand upright on a flat surface. Oak grain patterns show clearly across the surface, complemented by polished metallic highlights on the silver-plated elements. Measuring 40 cm wide, the trophy spans a compact footprint suited for display. In a contemporary home, this item brings a traditional gentleman's library aesthetic to interior spaces. Collectors and enthusiasts can place the piece on a dedicated bookshelf, a desk, a mantelpiece, or within a cabinet amongst sporting memorabilia. The freestanding design requires no hanging hardware, making it simple to position on any level surface in a study, office, or living room. The neutral wood tones and metallic details coordinate easily with traditional or eclectic room schemes, offering a distinctive historical touch to modern decorative displays.

FAQs

Oak trophy shields became prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as perpetual awards presented by local clubs, pubs, and working mens associations to honour annual tournament winners over consecutive years.

These shields typically feature a solid oak or mahogany backing fitted with electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), sterling silver, or brass plaques and scroll banners.

Authentic period shields exhibit hand-engraved date inscriptions, silver hallmarks or maker marks, natural wood patination, and original easel or hanging fixings on the reverse.

A wooden trophy shield works well displayed on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or console table within a study or home bar to introduce historical character.

Clean the wooden backing gently with a soft cloth and beeswax polish, while carefully polishing metal plaques using specialised silver cleaner without applying liquids directly to the timber finish.
