This fine late eighteenth-century Georgian card table is fashioned from rich brown mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood with boxwood stringing. The piece exhibits a figured curl mahogany fold-over top edged with checkered banding, above a shaped frieze and a reeded apron. Supported by double gates and finely turned, fluted tapered legs, the table stands on original brass castors. Visible details include crisp inlay work, original brass hinges, and subtle signs of age and wear consistent with the period, alongside a replaced green baize interior. The table measures 76 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 36 cm deep when closed. Placed against a narrow wall space in an English country house interior, the table functions as a console or a functional surface in a hallway, drawing room, or living area, offering surface space for lamps or decorative objects while retaining its antique character.

Late 18th-century Georgian card tables typically feature slender turned or tapered legs, refined marquetry or stringing inlay, and a hinged fold-over top designed to rest against a wall when closed or open up for card games.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, frequently accented with satinwood, tulipwood, or boxwood stringing, along with brass hinges and castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timbers such as pine or oak inside the frame, natural timber shrinkage along the grain, and original brass gate-leg or fly-leg hinges.

When closed, a card table functions as an elegant hall console or side table beneath artwork; when opened, it serves as an occasional writing desk or games surface.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft microfiber cloth, applying a beeswax polish annually along the wood grain, and keeping the table away from direct sunlight or extreme humidity changes.
