Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Regency period folding duet music stand is constructed from dark brown rosewood with brass hardware. The design includes a double-sided square frame with lattice struts, two hinged sheet music holders, ratcheted adjustable supports, brass page holders, and an urn finial on top. Articulated brass candle holders are mounted on the sides, complementing the adjustable-height ring-turned stem, turned tapered column, shaped circular stepped base, and triform feet. Standing as a practical piece of furniture, it brings traditional character to a gentleman's library or an empty corner in a home today. Musicians and collectors can use it to hold sheet music or books while adding period style to a study, music room, or living space.

FAQs

A duet music stand is designed to hold sheet music for two musicians playing simultaneously, featuring a double-sided desk mounted on an adjustable central column. Popularised in the 19th century, these stands were standard furnishings in domestic music rooms and private salons.

Victorian music stands were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut. These pieces frequently feature brass adjusting mechanisms and brass candle sconces to provide illumination before the advent of electricity.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-turned timber columns, cast brass hardware with natural surface oxidisation, hand-cut joinery on the lattice desks, and original dark timber finishes showing subtle wear consistent with age.

An antique music stand functions as a decorative lectern in a study, library, or hallway, ideal for displaying open art books, manuscripts, or large prints.

Position the stand away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the wood surface.
