This Regency writing table is manufactured from mahogany in a dark brown timber colour, showing a figured grain and a deep aged patina across its surfaces. The structure measures 80 cm high, 91 cm wide and 50 cm deep, standing on four slender ring-turned and tapering legs with pegged feet. The frieze incorporates two cockbeaded drawers fitted with small round turned wooden knobs, while the upper surface is bordered by a three-quarter gallery with scrolled ends. In a contemporary home, this antique desk functions as a practical workspace in a home office, study or bedroom. It also serves as a side table or console table in a hallway or living room, providing surface space and storage through its two integrated drawers.

FAQs

Regency writing tables are characterised by classical proportions, refined timber finishes such as mahogany, and elegant geometric profiles produced in early 19th-century Britain.

Cabinetmakers during this period predominantly used mahogany and rosewood, incorporating hand-cut dovetail joinery and turned wood or brass fittings.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, fine ring-turned legs, original timber wear, and consistent timber oxidisation across structural elements.

Position the piece in a dedicated study paired with contemporary seating, or utilise it as an elevated console table within an entryway or living space.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax polish periodically, and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators.
