This early 19th-century freestanding occasional table is built from dark brown rosewood with brass hardware. The rectangular top has rounded corners, leading to a single end drawer fitted with two brass lion mask handles and ebonised cockbeads, accompanied by a dummy drawer on the opposite side. The structure rests on reeded scroll trestle supports featuring a central rectangular collar with ebonised turned mouldings, joined by a turned and tapered stretcher. The lower section comprises a plinth with ebonised turned mouldings, leading to outswept tapered legs with ebonised carved acanthus decoration on the inner corners, terminating in chased brass castors. The table measures 74.2 cm high, 62.2 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this piece functions well as an occasional table positioned at the end of a sofa for holding lamps, books, or small decorative items. Its freestanding format allows placement in various locations within a sitting room or drawing room where a compact surface is required.

Regency period rosewood tables are characterised by rich dark timber with distinctive grain patterns, classical proportions, scrolled supports, and brass embellishments or castors, reflecting early nineteenth-century English design influences.

Cabinetmakers during the nineteenth century paired imported Brazilian or Indian rosewood veneers and solids with brass hardware, oak or pine drawer linings, and occasionally ebonised decorative mouldings.

Authentic pieces exhibit superior joinery, fine drawer construction with hand-cut dovetails, high-quality brass fitments, turned or carved trestle legs, and balanced classical proportions typical of English workshops.

A Regency occasional table serves as an accent piece beside contemporary seating, within a reading nook, or positioned as a hallway table alongside minimalist modern art and tailored lighting.

Rosewood should be kept away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent drying or cracking, maintained with periodic applications of natural beeswax, while brass hardware requires gentle dusting with a soft cloth to protect its patinated surface.
