This pair of Georgian creamware ice pails dates from the 19th century and brings traditional English Country House style to an interior. Each lidded earthenware vessel has a glossy cream-coloured glaze decorated with hand-painted polychrome floral bouquets, featuring vibrant pinks, purples, yellows, and blues, accompanied by lined enamel rims. They stand on circular stepped pedestal feet, and the fitted lids include loop-shaped finials at the top alongside scrolled side handles that resemble clam shapes. One lid shows signs of slight restoration work upon closer inspection. Measuring 26x24x18 cm, these ice pails sit comfortably atop a sideboard in a dining room or living space as decorative display pieces or functional containers.

During the Georgian period, creamware ice pails were utilised at high-status dining tables to keep wine, fruit, or chilled desserts cold using crushed ice placed within internal liners.

Creamware is a refined lead-glazed earthenware produced from white clay combined with calcined flint, frequently decorated with hand-painted enamel botanical motifs and delicate linework.

Authentic pieces from circa 1800 to 1810 feature a warm pale glaze, light body construction, hand-painted floral decoration, and fitted multi-part liners or lids designed for thermal control.

These decorative vessels can be arranged on a sideboard top, placed as statement decorative items on a dining table, or used as urns to display floral arrangements.

Clean gently by hand using warm water and a soft cloth, avoiding immersion, abrasive detergents, or dishwasher use that could wear away delicate hand-painted enamel embellishments.
