Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th Century Victorian carvery trolley combines a polished silver-plated domed retractable hood with a warm brown mahogany pedestal base. The structure rests on four swivel castors and incorporates carved cabriole legs, decorative floral mounts, a central spirit burner mechanism, and a side-mounted round plate. The visible silver-plated surfaces exhibit reflective highlights, while the mahogany frame displays natural wood grain patterns and ornate carved scrollwork near the base. Measuring 135 cm high, 67 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, this serving trolley suits hospitality venues, formal dining rooms, or traditional country house interiors as a functional carvery accessory and statement serving station.

FAQs

Carvery beef trolleys originated in the 19th century to facilitate tableside service in hotels, restaurants, and country houses. They allowed chefs to keep joints of meat warm using built-in burners while presenting and carving them directly in front of guests.

These trolleys typically feature silver-plated or nickel-plated brass domed covers, fitted with stainless steel or silver-plated trays, supported by polished mahogany, walnut, or oak bases mounted on heavy castors.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy silver-plated metalwork, cast iron or brass spirit burners beneath the carving tray, makers marks or silver plate stamps, and solid timber pedestals with original swivel castors.

In contemporary settings, these pieces are often repurposed as statement bar carts, unique cocktail stations, or central decorative features in dining rooms and commercial hospitality spaces.

The metal dome should be polished regularly using specialised silver polish and a soft cloth, while the wooden pedestal requires gentle dusting and occasional beeswax application to preserve the original timber finish.
