This early twentieth-century anatomical teaching model represents a near-term foetal skull from the period around 1940. Rendered in a beige composition material with an aged finish that mimics preserved bone, the piece exhibits moulded cranial sutures, radiating striations across the frontal and parietal plates to show biological ossification patterns, an open anterior fontanelle, distinct eye sockets, and a mandible articulation. Metal wiring is visible inside the orbital cavity. The dimensions measure 12 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 8 cm deep. Suitable for placement on a bookshelf in a gentleman's library study environment, the object serves as a display piece for collectors of medical antiquities. The neutral beige colour palette and compact proportions allow the model to integrate easily with surrounding book collections or desk displays, maintaining the character of early medical teaching aids without requiring extensive surface area.

Anatomical teaching models were developed in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to allow medical students and practitioners to study human anatomy without relying solely on cadavers. Models of foetal skulls specifically aided in obstetric training and the study of early cranial development.

Early anatomical models were constructed from natural bone, wax, papier-mache, or early synthetic resins and composition materials. Internal wiring or small metal pins were frequently used to hold delicate cranial structures in position.

Authentic period pieces often show natural surface patination, subtle hand-finishing, and visible joining methods such as internal brass pins or delicate wires. Standardised moulding lines, aged composition materials, and historical maker marks or serial numbers also indicate provenance.

These items are ideal for display within a cabinet of curiosities, on dark timber bookshelves, or beneath glass display domes in a home office or study. Pairing them with framed vintage botanical or medical prints creates a cohesive dark academia aesthetic.

Keep the object away from direct sunlight, extreme heat sources, and damp environments to prevent degradation or warping of organic and composition materials. Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre brush without applying water or chemical cleaners.
