This 18th-century Georgian Pratt ware earthenware spirit flask originates from England, attributed to Staffordshire or Yorkshire between 1780 and 1790. The circular ceramic body displays a light cream earthenware base beneath a delicate tin glaze, adorned with relief-moulded flora arranged in radial panels. The surface features polychrome enamel colours of characteristic blue, green, and brown, complemented by a castellated edge and an original pewter shaped collar at the neck. The piece measures 8.3 cm high, 6.6 cm wide, and 3.6 cm deep. Suitable for placement on a bookshelf, this decorative vessel brings an English country house design vibe to traditional interiors.

Pratt ware refers to English creamware and pearlware items manufactured between approximately 1780 and 1840, characteristically decorated with relief-moulded designs and coloured with underglaze high-temperature metal oxide pigments. Named after the Pratt family of Fenton, Staffordshire, similar pieces were produced by various contemporary potteries across Staffordshire and Yorkshire.

These vessels were predominantly crafted from earthenware or pearlware clays press-moulded in two halves and joined before firing. Decorators applied high-fire underglaze oxides in cobalt blue, copper green, manganese brown, and antimony yellow prior to covering the piece in a clear lead glaze.

Authentic examples exhibit press-moulded construction seams, high-relief decorative motifs, and a distinct palette of underglaze oxide colours including cobalt blue, orange-yellow, and green. Wear around the neck opening and base, along with controlled glaze crazing, typically indicates historical manufacture and age.

Display the flask on a dedicated acrylic or wire stand within a glass cabinet, on a shallow wall shelf, or amongst book spines on a styled bookshelf. Grouping themed ceramic items together emphasizes relief texture and historical colour palettes without cluttering modern spaces.

Clean the surface using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust. Avoid immersing the piece in water or applying chemical cleaning agents, which can penetrate micro-fractures in the lead glaze and alter underglaze pigments.
