This eighteenth century pair of Georgian Sheraton style demi-lune card tables consists of two matching console tables made from warm brown figured mahogany with satinwood stringing, boxwood, and tulipwood inlay. Each piece has a fold-over top, panelled friezes, and square tapered legs. The timber displays natural grain patterns with polished warm brown tones, alongside delicate light-coloured line inlay tracing the edges of the semi-circular tops and aprons. Measuring 70 cm high, 90 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, these narrow items fit neatly against a hallway wall, in a sitting room, or within a dining area as decorative console surfaces or occasional tables. They suit traditional interiors and classical decorative schemes when placed against a flat room boundary.

Sheraton style demi-lune card tables emerged in late 18th-century England, characterized by neoclassical proportions, semicircular profiles, and geometric wood inlays. Designed following the pattern books of Thomas Sheraton, these tables served a dual purpose as wall-mounted console tables that folded open into green baize-lined gaming surfaces.

Craftspeople primarily utilized mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, detailed with satinwood, boxwood, or rosewood crossbanding. Construction featured hand-dovetailed joints, gate-leg or swing-leg mechanisms to support the fold-over leaf, and square tapered legs.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, original brass hinges, and irregular hand-planed secondary timbers beneath the frame. Shrinkage marks in the veneer consistent with age, alongside hand-inlaid stringing rather than printed decoration, also indicate period authenticity.

Demi-lune tables are frequently positioned in hallways, dining rooms, or living room alcoves to serve as narrow console surfaces. Arranging them as a symmetrical pair against architectural panelling or on either side of a doorway creates structure and balance in modern schemes.

Dust the wooden surfaces regularly using a clean, dry microfibre cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent veneer lifting or wood movement.
