This antique side table from the 1920s is made from beech with a warm brown timber finish and a natural grain. The circular top is framed by a raised spindle gallery of evenly spaced upright wooden spindles. Below, a turned central column leads down to three splayed tripod legs with carved reeded detailing and carved claw feet at the base. The proportions measure 60 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, providing a practical surface area for a compact space. Positioned in an English Country House style interior, this piece serves as a functional accent item. It fits easily beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa to hold a small lamp, drink, or book. The combination of the galleried rim, the turned pillar, and the detailed claw feet creates a distinctive profile for daily use in a living room or study.

A gallery top tripod table is a small occasional table characterised by a single turned pedestal, three curved legs, and a raised perimeter rail or spindle border designed to prevent items from sliding off.

Tripod tables were historically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, oak, and beech, which allowed turners to carve sturdy central columns and detailed spindle galleries.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand or early machine turning on the central pedestal, structural joinery at the leg attachments, and natural patination across the timber surfaces.

Designers frequently position tripod tables alongside armchairs or sofas as functional surface space for drinks, lamps, or reading material, complementing both contemporary and period schemes.

Routine maintenance requires dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain to preserve the wood finish and protect against moisture.
