This Regency writing and side table employs rich amboyna wood with a warm brown timber finish and delicate ebony stringing bordering the oblong top. The polished rectangular surface rests upon two vertical flared trestle supports that taper downward to the floor. Four carved feet beneath the trestle ends display a gadrooned, rounded turning pattern. The timber shows the natural variegated grain and figure characteristic of amboyna construction from the period around 1825. Measuring 71 cm high, 99 cm wide, and 64 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface area suited to multiple domestic spaces. In a contemporary interior, this piece works effectively as a writing desk in a study or home office, functions as a side table in a hallway or landing, or stands gracefully against the back of a sofa in a living room.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, Regency writing tables are defined by classical proportions, symmetrical lines, and functional design, frequently utilizing trestle end supports and figured wood veneers.

These tables were predominantly crafted from imported mahogany or rosewood, often featuring solid timber legs, dovetail jointed drawers, and hand-carved feet or brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of hand-planed timber, period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, natural wood shrinkage around iron fixings, and uneven oxidisation on unexposed surfaces.

A Regency writing table functions well positioned behind a sofa, positioned in an entryway as a console, or set up as a compact desk paired with a modern desk lamp and minimalist seating.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying a beeswax polish annually. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer lifting or timber cracking.
