Edwardian Croquet Stand

Description

A difficult to find superior quality 'Usborne' lawn croquet set and stand by F. H. Ayres of London c.1910. Polished ash stand with gilded sign writing to the top plate, noting the makers name 'F H Ayres' and the model name 'The Usborne'. An 'A' shaped framework to the front and back to secure the top rail and base in position plus turned carrying handle set to the top. The railed base holds the mallets either side of a central platform, which has four cup shaped moulds to hold the four balls. The top rail with hinged retaining catches at each end to hold the mallets within the frame. The set includes four period mallets with ash handles, the original colour coded wooden balls, marker peg and a set of white painted iron hoops (not shown).
