Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Exotic animal hide luggage became prominent during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras as luxury travel expanded via railway and ocean liners. Craftsmen selected exotic skins for their durability and distinctive scale pattern, tailoring these pieces for affluent travellers.

High-end travel cases typically incorporated hide outer shellssuch as crocodile, alligator, or cowhidestretched over timber or fibreboard frames. Interior linings featured velvet, silk, or moire fabric, while external hardware was crafted from solid cast brass.

Genuine reptile hide features asymmetrical scale size, natural follicle variations, and distinct umbilical scars. Authentic period pieces also display hand-stitched seams, heavy solid brass latches, and proportional wear patterns along the base and corners.

Small leather cases serve as functional decorative accents on sideboard tops, coffee tables, or inside bookshelves. They can be stacked in groups of varying sizes or left closed to function as elevated display risers for smaller objects.

Reptile leather requires climate-controlled environments away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking. Applying specialized leather conservator creams helps maintain moisture, while brass hardware can be maintained with non-abrasive cloths.
