Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th century, Georgian drop flap and gateleg tables were designed to maximize space in formal dining rooms and parlours. They provided expandable surface area for dining or entertaining while folding down compactly when not in active use.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense timbers such as Cuban mahogany, walnut, or oak. The construction features rule joints along the hinged leaves and hand-turned wooden gatelegs with iron or steel hinges.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-sawn timber marks on the underside, period rule joints where the leaves meet, hand-cut dovetails or mortise-and-tenon joints, and natural irregular wear on turned feet.

A drop flap table offers versatile styling options; it can serve as a full dining table when extended, or sit against a wall as a console table with one or both leaves lowered, paired with modern dining chairs for architectural contrast.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or warping. Clean surfaces with a microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the original patina.
