Introduced for British infantry officers in the late 18th century, the 1786 pattern spadroon is a lightweight, straight-bladed military sword designed for thrusting and light cutting, characterised by a rigid blade and a distinct hilt configuration.

These sidearms were crafted using high-carbon steel for the blade, often detailed with blued and gilded chemical etching, combined with brass or gilt-bronze hilts, wire-bound grips, and leather scabbards with brass mounts.
