Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Empire style decorative urns emerged in the early nineteenth century, drawing heavy influence from Greco-Roman classical architecture and motifs. They typically feature symmetrical silhouettes, marble bases, and chased gilt bronze mounts depicting classical mythology, lyres, or botanical elements.

Traditional garniture urns were constructed using carved natural marbles, such as Rouge Griotte or Vert Antique, paired with gilt bronze mounts. The bronze components were cast via lost-wax techniques and hand-chiselled before gilding.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit gilded bronze with natural age patina in recessed areas, hand-chiselled details on mounts, and cast iron or brass threaded rods securing the internal structure. Heavy weight and hand-cut threads on square assembly nuts are key indicators of age.

Gilt bronze and marble urns function as focal points when displayed symmetrically on a dining sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table. Placing them against neutral contemporary backdrops highlights their classical form and metallic finishes without overwhelming the room.

Dust bronze mounts gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent accumulation in detailed chasing. Clean marble surfaces using a damp cloth with pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic cleaners that damage marble or harsh polishes that strip gilding.
