Antique Edwardian Satinwood-inlaid Centre/lamp Table

1900 - 1920
Description

A refined Edwardian lamp or centre table of elegant form. The shaped top is beautifully figured and outlined with fine satinwood stringing, giving the table a sophisticated and decorative appearance characteristic of the late Victorian–Edwardian transitional style.

The table stands on four square tapering legs terminating in spade feet all united by delicate cross stretchers with a turned finial to the centre—an attractive and well-balanced feature. The original castors remain in place allowing the piece to move easily when required.

A versatile and well-proportioned table suitable for use as a lamp table, occasional table, or centrepiece in a drawing room or hallway.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian centre tables typically feature lighter proportions than their Victorian predecessors, often incorporating Sheraton and Hepplewhite revival influences such as slender tapered legs, decorative satinwood inlays, and geometric stretcher supports.

Cabinetmakers during the Edwardian era frequently employed mahogany or rosewood as a primary timber, detailed with contrasting satinwood or boxwood stringing and marquetry. Construction incorporated hand-cut dovetail joints and traditional hide glue.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of natural age and wear to the timber, hand-carved details or turned finials, period-correct brass castors, and precise veneer inlay work that flushes smoothly with the main surface.

An Edwardian lamp table serves well as an accent piece in modern living rooms or hallways, providing contrast against minimalist upholstery when styled with modern ceramics or contemporary lighting.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year to maintain the protective finish and prevent timber drying.
